Hzrat Bilal bin Rabah (RA) was one of the most loyal and trusted Sabah of Prophet Mohammad (SAW). He was born in Macca and he was a former Abyssinian slave. His house is turned into a Mosque by Saudi Government. Hazrat Bilal (RA) was among first Slave to accept Islam in Makkah and he is known as the first Muazzin of Islam.
This mosque has its historical and religious importance to Muslims because it is named after Hazrat Bilal (RA), the first Muazzin (someone who calls to daily prayers in Islam, reciter of Adhan) of Islam and Bilal (RA) was renowned for his voice. He was a former slave and was one of the close companions of the Prophet (PBUH).
All Muslims consider the mosque to be an essential component of their lives. Muslims congregate in this sacred location to worship and strengthen their bonds with one another. The traditional mosque is a hub of religious authority and maximum communal cohesion; it serves as an effective learning facility for all facets of life and religion. The modern urban mosque retains all the features of a classic mosque while placing more of an emphasis on social and communal issues.
Bilal (Raj) was among the Sahabah (RA) promised Paradise in this world, as mentioned in the story of his footsteps being heard in paradise.
Bilal Masjid is located across the ring road, south of the Prophet's Mosque. Not exactly accessible if you are staying in the Northern part of the Haram as the distance can be a bit too far for walking. However, if you do come here, there's a bustling market underneath and next to the Bilal Masjid. The shops here are possibly cheaper than those around Haram.
