Zubaida, the Queen of Iraq, was wife of Khalifa Haroon Al-Rashid (170 -193 Hijri) the fifth Abbasid Khalifa (Caliph). She built the canal.  Queen Zubaida came to Makkah to perform her Haj Pilgrimage in 809 AD (193 Hijri), she noticed that there is an extreme shortage of water. Zubaida immediately ordered to build a canal that served the pilgrims for more than 1,200 years.

Zubaida Canal has no religious significant or importance but it has great importance of it engineering, construction and use of modern technology and one of the historic place in Makkah. To get her purpose solved first she bought the whole valley and announced that money world never be a hurdle in the way of completion of her dream project. As engineers first rejected the idea of constructing a canal in such a barrel and high temperature zone.

Ain Zubaidah is a great archeological site of wonderful geometric design in Makkah. Ayn Zubaydah is a master piece of Engineering and a symbol of the golden era of Arab culture. It reflects great care for pilgrims throughout history, as it is the oldest network used for providing pilgrims and travelers with water for 1200 years.
